ABOUT US

NO JACK was founded to address one of the most persistent and costly challenges in commercial transportation: high-severity trailer instability events that continue to drive disproportionate losses across fleets and insurance portfolios.

The company is focused on advancing how risk is managed in articulated vehicles by developing system-level solutions that move beyond prediction and reporting toward direct loss prevention at the point of failure.

Our work is centered on enabling safer, more resilient freight operations while supporting insurers, OEMs, and fleet operators in reducing exposure to catastrophic loss events and improving long-term operational predictability.

“I was hauling a load of household goods back to the yard when I encountered a severe storm—heavy rain, strong winds, and reduced visibility. I was on a divided highway, and everything happened quickly.

While checking my mirrors, I saw my trailer beginning to pass me on the right. I could feel the loss of stability almost immediately. Within seconds, the truck jackknifed. The trailer rotated significantly, and I came to rest in the median.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries. But the experience made clear how quickly a high-severity loss event can develop—even during routine operations.

From a systems perspective, what stood out afterward was that nothing in the existing safety stack addressed the origin of the instability. Most technologies respond only after traction and control are already lost, rather than preventing the articulation condition that leads to it.

That realization led me to consider whether intervention at the mechanical coupling—where the problem begins—could prevent jackknife events altogether.

I began testing this concept using a modified trailer setup to explore controlled articulation at the fifth-wheel interface. Early results showed that limiting the rotation window under real-world adverse conditions had a direct and measurable impact on stability and control.

That work became the foundation for NO JACK.”

Mr. Hansen began his career in transportation as a U.S. Army heavy equipment transport operator in the 1960s, supporting military logistics operations involving the movement of heavy and specialized vehicles.

He went on to accumulate more than 4.5 million miles of professional commercial driving experience over multiple decades in heavy-duty freight operations. Following his driving career, he played a significant role in commercial driver education and workforce development, including founding and directing the Northern Colorado Truck Driving Academy and instructing at multiple national training institutions.

In addition to his operational and instructional experience, Mr. Hansen served as a commercial vehicle accident investigator for the State of Colorado, where he evaluated crash events involving heavy commercial vehicles and contributed to post-incident analysis and safety reporting.

This combination of field operations, driver training, and accident investigation provides a rare, full-spectrum understanding of commercial vehicle dynamics and failure modes.
